Dear fellow solar energy enthusiast,
My name is Sullivan Kincaid, and I’ve been in love with the
idea of solar energy for almost 40 years, ever since writing a 5 paragraph
research paper for my 4th grade teacher! I remember thinking how very cool it would be
if everyone had solar cells on their rooftops, with no need for outside
power. What a dream! H
Nearly four decades later, it’s still mostly a dream. Photovoltaic efficiencies didn’t increase as
quickly as some had hoped; production costs remained higher than most people
could afford; demand didn’t surge and the economies of scale which had been
predicted in those books with black and white photos of Bell Laboratories
scientists I’d read for my project didn’t materialize.
But . . . while we
still don’t see PV arrays or solar water heaters on every home, there IS a
grass roots shift in that direction. Little
by little people all over the planet are finding ways to use solar energy to
meet their personal demands. You might
say a new day is dawning for solar energy.
